Gail was born in the UK in 1973. She studied Fine Art at Manchester University, specialising in sculpture. She later trained to become an art teacher and began her teaching career in 1995. Gail moved to Hong Kong in 1997
With over 17 years’ experience, Gail is both an experienced art teacher and a gifted artist. She has depth of subject knowledge of all forms of Art, supported with a good knowledge of contextual and critical studies.
Gail specialises in teaching and running Art and Design from ages 10-18yrs. As Head of Department for over 12 years, Gail had to implement art and design curriculums relevant to ages middle school through to high school and students moving onto Foundation and degree courses, as well as examination boards. Gail understands the requirements and demands of examination criteria. She works with the students in a manner where their work is developed sequentially, showing transition and evolution of skills, concepts and techniques. All work is justified with evidence of critical judgment and informed opinion. These elements of the design cycle are essential processes needed draw out each individuals potential or for them to pass their Art examinations successfully.
Gail runs courses that cover a wide variety of techniques and disciplines, including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture and two and three-dimensional works.
Her experience will help not only develop a student’s confidence and competence, but will also enrich that student’s imagination, creativity, skills and techniques, alongside their critical and academic thinking.
Gail can help support, guide and teach students who are studying IB (MYP and IBDP), BTEC, GCSE, AS, A2 (A-level) or AP Grades 10 – 13 (ages 14 – 18).
The work that the students produce under her guidance can be specific to their examination portfolios (coursework). All the work created can be submitted into their exam portfolio at the end of the year (subject to their teachers’ approval).
This is also a great option for students who are taking a year out, but are later going on to study Art at university or foundation level. It is essential that in their time out these students continue to build on their skills and portfolio.
Gail has always ensured that her students’ portfolios show that the criteria have been fully met.
Her experience will help not only develop a student’s confidence and competence, but will also enrich that student’s imagination, creativity, skills and techniques, alongside their critical and academic thinking.
She teaches students on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturday mornings. In addition, she teaches the adult and life-drawing classes.
